Monks Gate Vineyard
- Wine Tasting
Come join us to experience the wonder and the wine of MonksGate vineyard it is the focal point of our 50 acre farm located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA of Oregon?s northern Willamette Valley. In searching for our ''get back to the land'' place, we, and subsequently our daughter, Rebecca, were drawn to the northern Willamette Valley's maritime climate of cool nights, warm dry summer days and, of course, the opportunity to produce stellar Pinot Noir wines!
Our property abutts property owned by the nearby Trappist Abbey whose monks had, for years, traversed both their acreage and ours. Their knowledge of the land was extremely beneficial as we began the daunting task of taming the acreage that had been claimed by overgrown Christmas trees, scrub oak and blackberries. And, yes, there is a gate, complete with a statute of Saint Francis of Assisi, that we put in when we deer fenced to give the monks continued access to both properties.
The vineyard site ranges in elevation from 260 to 440 feet on predominantly south to southwest slopes. The soil type is classified as Willakenzie, a silty clay loam over siltstone. The vineyard is non irrigated and is farmed sustainably to ensure that it will be environmentally and economically viable for generations to come.
